about

About this album:
The music was an early piece inspired by the sonorous cello music played by David Darling. It is meant to be slow, almost meditative and uses no more than 3 notes at a time, some of them lasting almost a minute.

The music is also inspired by the time of day when shadow is as strong as light, during the dusk - after the sun has set but before night fully arrives. The time when it is no longer possible to tell whether the surface of a lake is brighter or darker than the sky.

It was recorded on a Korg D16 and a cheap borrowed Yamaha keyboard. With no control via envelope generator, all the long notes had to be created by turning the volume knob up and down each time – perhaps creating as much a physical connection to the music as using a bow on a cello.....I also had to play the notes by ear when overdubbing as they were not timed by a sequencer....

Originally longer at 35 minutes (which included a section with a 7 beat rhythm) this version was originally released by Oophoi as a limited edition on his Penumbra label.

It is also one of my most musical pieces of music.

I hope you enjoy it.

Everything is treated, carved and explored for unusual textures, dissonances, shades – allowing the evolving themes of each track or album to develop.
Occasionally 'music' has actually appeared as well.
