I'm not good at maths, but the fact that I can make a strange dimensional shape by twisting a strip of paper half a turn and sticking the ends together to make a Moebius strip has always amazed me. The Moebius strip has one face and one edge, yet it exists in our 3 dimensional space. I found myself wondering what a thought might be like if it was treated in the same way…a Moebius Thought.

Similarly, the maths that Eugenio Calabi and Shing-tung Yau were exploring at different times have, without intention, become central to the cutting edge of physics and our understanding of how time, space and the weirdness of the universe has resulted in the fact that I am here and you are reading these words. Multi-dimensional shapes that may portray the actual shape of the dimensions we are unable to see or touch, but out of which materialise the particles that make up matter and the laws that guide their interactions.
This led to the track Calabi-Yau.

In the same way that I have always loved looking at the stars, I have always enjoyed reading about these physics and feeling my head turn inside out trying to understand them, which may itself only be the holographic experience of mathematics occurring somewhere on the boundary of a universe.

After finishing ‘All Distances Become Infinite’ I had deleted all my other projects apart from one and started exploring what I might want to do now, without the pressure of incomplete albums pushing me in particular directions.

Initially I intended to make music that was simpler than the complex sounds of recent years, yet I found that both started to appear. Strange Spaces is the album of complexity that came into existence.

The track 'Strange Spaces' is the longform version of the album, with both Moebius Thought and Calabi-Yau together.

Strange Spaces was recorded in the Starweb Studio between April and July 2019 on Roland VS 2480, Korg D16, Novation Supernova, electric guitar, Technics KN1500, TC M3000, TC Fireworx, Sony MDS JB730, Tascam MD 350 and Sonar Artist.
