Calling II 01:06:52

about

Calling contains 2 tracks of previously unreleased music as well as artwork for CD cover.

‘Calling’ as a piece of music developed out of a 3 day ceremony where I was tasked with creating the ‘soundscape’, from purely acoustic sources and instruments, to accompany all the activities and played from a balcony inside the main room.
The sounds ranged from dreamy and ethereal to loud and dissonant (swirling Tibetan bells around the inside of Singing Bowls and growling through an antelope horn was very dissonant).
Creating the soundscape from the balcony gave a real sense of being in another world as I watched the participants and both mirrored and guided sonically the processes they were undertaking.

For the original disc I wanted to create something that held the middle range of what I had been doing, something slow and meditative with a level of dissonance and discord.
Something that could be played in the background to other activities that opened up the dreaming, but had enough of an edge to keep people from drifting away and keeping them focused on where they were.
The music is pretty constant in tone and sound over the 68 minutes.

Calling II was recorded in 2009, partly for a possible CD release and partly to include the more ethereal aspects of the original soundscaping. It’s a long time since I recorded it but I believe all the additional sounds are also acoustic in origin – mainly voice and vocal sounds – to keep to the original concept.

Calling and Calling II were recorded on a Korg D-16 and Roland VS2480 with TC M3000 reverb using voice, horn, pipes, gourds, shakers, goat hoof rattles, bells, singing bowls.

I hope you enjoy the music.

Seren Ffordd, (Star Road or Way of Stars), has been recording since 2004.
creating mainly soundscapes - which can be light / dark / noisy / strange by using acoustic sounds, effects & synths.
Everything is treated, carved and explored for unusual textures, dissonances, shades – allowing the evolving themes of each track or album to develop.
Occasionally 'music' has actually appeared as well.
